Best Skincare for a Healthy Complexion

The moment we all dread sneaks up on you… when we realize that we need to actually spend the extra time and money getting our skincare regimen in order. 😱 The moment I turned 23 (now 25) I quickly noticed how visible my pores were becoming and I never really understood “oily skin” until I found myself having to touch up mid-day.

Mind you, I started experimenting with makeup earlier than normal. As a dancer, you’d find us hair pulled back in a tight bun with lipstick as bright as Rudolph’s nose. The makeup was a key trick to winning the judges over from the dance floor. Moral of the story: makeup gives us confidence, but it comes with a price. Your skin doesn’t have to suffer years down the line. Praise! I like to think of it as an equal balance: makeup vs. skincare. I can even say that skincare has been getting the bulk of my budget lately. I’ve discovered so many incredible formulas and brands that are meant to improve oily skin and fine lines – giving you a healthy, glowing complexion. It’s really helped reduce the appearance of my pores plus my skin feels refreshed and oil-free so it’s a win-win!

These may have higher price tags, but the beauty of Sephora are the samples! Try 2-3 out for a few nights before committing. You can get as many as you’d like in store 😉 They worked for me, but everyone’s skin is different. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Bosnia’s Luminizing Black Charcoal Mask: It’s the most refreshing mask you’ll try! I’m sure you’ve heard how well charcoal tackles pores. I pair it with e.l.f.’s Pore Refining Brush & Mask Tool and it works WONDERS! You keep your hands from touching your face and it lets you evenly apply it around your face. Keep in on for 30 minutes then BAM! The sucker peels right off, leaving you feeling like a million bucks. You’re skin will be so smooth. Literally like it can breathe again.

KORRES’ Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial: Nicknamed “the overnight facial-in-a-jar, this product is amazing! It’s the texture of a creamy lotion and a light scent of rose. It’s the best smelling skincare product I have! I’m obsessed to say the least… Infused with Super C, which is basically Vitamin C on crack, is the secret behind a bright complexion. The Wild Rose will moisturize and improve the texture of skin. This formula is a weightless, whipped texture that quite literally melts into the skin giving your face all the nutrients it needs while you catch some zzz’s!

Origins’ High-Potency Night-A-Mins Mineral-Enriched Oil-Free Renewal Cream: An oil-free night cream that gives your skin its evening dose of Vitamin C and E. Every time I use this stuff I wake up feeling like I just got a facial in my dreams. 🙌🏼 It definitely helps sooth the skin after a long day of makeup! Made with relaxing aromas, it’s meant to help drift you into a restful night’s sleep!

Caudalie’s Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet: The bottle is sexy, the formula is sexy and it makes your skin feel oh-so-soft. It’s best-selling for a reason y’all! It’s the closest thing you’ll come to magic. The formula starts as a cream before it transitions to a gel texture to better hydrate the skin. I especially love using this for the general t-zone area since it’s good for fine lines ie. smile lines and that pesky frown line.

Caudalie’s Resveratrol Lift Face Lifting Moisturizer SPF 20: Helps with firmness and fine lines to help reshape and lift the look of your skin. It’s amazing for the neck area!

The best skincare advice I’ve ever received was a reminder: “Whatever skincare you put on your face should be applied to the neck.” It’s something I also remind myself and it makes sense. If you’re putting anti-aging or hydrating creams on your face, why wouldn’t you want your neck to feel just as smooth and firm? It’s a win-win!

If Sephora ever offers any of these babies as a free gift, swipe them up because it’s so worth the try! A lot of these I’ve received through my Play! by Sephora subscription.
